It’s 2026. Why I still choose to write.

My judgment: desmondkhoo.com will remain writing-first. Video may reach more people. Writing is still better for the kind of thinking I want to produce.

In October 2023, I wanted to start sharing what I knew about finance and technology.

I chose writing.

I published on LinkedIn, InLeo and several other platforms.

Three years later, I had another chance to reconsider. I could convert my articles into videos, shorts, podcasts and other formats.

I chose writing again.

Double conviction.

1. Writing is quiet

Reading and writing require some peace and quiet.

No music. No sound effects. No presenter fighting to keep your attention every three seconds.

Just the words and your own thoughts.

That matters because the point of this website is thinking.

2. I am here to share ideas, not editing skills

I am here to share what I think in its rawest useful form.

Not to showcase how good my filming, animation or editing skills are.

When I have an idea, I want to write it, sharpen it and publish it.

That’s it.

3. Writing forces me to think

The loop is simple:

Plan.

Write.

Review.

Improve.

Every round sharpens the writing and the thinking.

Talking can hide a weak idea behind confidence and charisma.

On the page, the idea has to survive by itself.

4. Writing allows me to express my style better

There is proper English.

Then there is the slightly quirky way I use it.

The rhythm. The abrupt sentences. The occasional “lah”.

Writing lets people understand not only what I think, but also the person doing the thinking.

5. Reading asks for deliberate attention

You can play a podcast or video in the background while driving, cooking or doing something else.

You cannot properly read an argument that way.

Reading asks you to stop.

To look at the words.

To stay with the idea.

I put time into writing and sharing these thoughts. I want the reader to bring some attention too.

I do not want this website to become background noise.

6. I am choosing my audience

Writing may reduce my reach.

Good.

I am not trying to reach everybody.

If you do not like reading in 2026, you are probably not my audience.

This website is for people who are willing to sit with an idea and think.

Video is excellent for entertainment and for anything that genuinely needs to be seen.

But desmondkhoo.com exists to help me think better—and hopefully help others do the same.

So I choose writing.
